How do two types of flooring meet if they are different?

If you choose two different new floors, they'll have to connect at some point. The connecting feature is called a transition, with several different kinds.

The transition that works best for you will depend on the two types of flooring you’re connecting. However, here are some ideas about what you can expect.

The T-bar transition

A T-bar is the perfect transition between two types of flooring with similar heights. It works well between hardwood and tile flooring, for instance, with excellent results.

The T shape allows you to glue or nail it into place, depending on the materials you're connecting. Again, our flooring company offers a wealth of examples you can browse while you're here.

Transitioning with a reducer molding

This transition is perfect for surfaces that have different thicknesses. Vinyl and laminate are examples but not the only options that will work with this transition.

Reducer molding is not practical with floating floors. But it's an excellent choice for a beautiful result between two different flooring heights.

The 4-in-1 transition strip

This transition combines four different pieces for your choice of actions. You'll find a T-bar, carpet strip, end molding, and hard surface reducer all in the same piece for the perfect new floors.

This is a great choice when you have different spaces to cater to. You're likely to find everything you need in this one transition piece.
